The Bay Area is aglow with holiday lights this season in all their colorful, twinkling splendor. But while some of us content ourselves to decorate indoors only, others go wild outside. They deck their exterior walls, patios and decks in such stunning fashion, crowds line up to see it all, pose with Santa, perhaps, and sing a few carols.

Santa Clara County offers plenty of holiday spectacle, starting with Los Gatos’ Vasona Lake County Park where a Fantasy of Lights display takes visitors on a 1.5-mile drive through a wonderland of lights, animated figures and a 90-foot twinkling tree  — all viewed from the comfort (and warmth) of your car.

Homeowners get in on the action, too, with light displays and interactive fun.

Check out the slide show above for a sneak peek, then hit the road to explore the light shows here, in Alameda County, Contra Costa County, the Peninsula and across the entire Bay Area. (Psst, did we miss your favorite spot? Tell us about it in the comments.)
