Kim Kardashian, accompanied by husband Kanye West, returned to Paris for the first time since she was robbed of $10 million of jewelry almost two years ago.
The couple descended on the City of Light Thursday to support West’s former fashion collaborator Virgil Abloh during Paris Fashion Week. As TMZ pointed out, Kardashian made good on her promise go low key and wore no jewelry at the Louis Vuitton Menswear Spring/Summer show featuring Abloh’s designs.
Kardashian and West were surrounded by bodyguards as they made their way to the event. The couple sat in the front row of the show, alongside Kardashian’s sister Kylie Jenner and Jenner’s boyfriend, rapper Travis Scott.
“There were guards around her but not a huge contingent,” an event guest told People. “It was almost normal but there was some tension you could feel.”
But other sources told the publication that Kardashian was “absolutely not” in fear and “seemed in a good mood.”
In October 2016, a group of men broke into the luxury apartment where Kardashian was staying during Paris Fashion Week. They bound her, robbed her at gunpoint and made away with millions of dollars in jewelry, including her 20-carat engagement ring from West.
Kardashian later recounted the ordeal on an episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” saying that she feared that she would be raped and killed.
“I was looking at the gun, looking at the stairs… either they’re going to shoot me in the back, or if I make it and they don’t, if the elevator doesn’t make it in time or the stairs are locked then I’m like (expletive),” she said. “There’s no way out.”
The return trip to Paris was emotional not just for Kardashian, but for West as well. The hip-hop artist and designer broke into tears as he congratulated Abloh following his show.
Abloh was appointed artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear collection earlier this year, making him the first African-American to hold the prestigious position. He and West interned at Fendi together, and Abloh later worked as the creative director of West’s creative agency, Donda, and served as artistic director of the “Watch the Throne,” West’s 2011 collaboration with Jay-Z.
