Besieged supermarkets got you down? Whether you’re among the vulnerable at-risk or just don’t want to face another empty grocery aisle shelf, there are other ways to get your staples during the pandemic.

In addition to CSAs and farmers markets, some restaurants, smaller markets and other services, like wholesale restaurant suppliers, are offering delivery or curbside pick up for pantry staples, dairy and other essentials. Here are a dozen or so to get you started. Check back for updates.

Alexander’s Steakhouse Butcher Shop, Bay Area: Offerings include traditional prime cuts as well as an eclectic assortment of Wagyu beef. Also featuring a “cut of the week” special that comes with a beer pairing as a treat from the home chef. Each location furnishes their own selection of items from which to choose. CPK Market, Walnut Creek, Pleasanton, Emeryville: California Pizza Kitchen is now offering dairy and pantry staples, produce, meat and seafood, dry pasta, sauces, bread, chips, crackers, juices and more available online and in-restaurant for pickup. Panera Grocery, Bay Area: Panera Bread locations are offering bread, bagels, cream cheese, tomatoes, fruit, milk and yogurt for rapid or scheduled pick up. www.panerabread.com

Restaurant Depot, Oakland, San Jose, San Francisco: For the first time in 40 years, this chain of restaurant supply stores is opening to the public. They offer a broad range of products in bulk, including cleaning supplies, paper products, seafood, canned goods, fresh meat, produce and beverages. Addresses are: 400 High St., Oakland; 520 Brennan St., San Jose; and 2045 Evans Ave, San Francisco.

Cheetah For People, Bay Area: Wholesale restaurant supplier now offering hundreds of groceries and other supplies to the public. Tender Greens, Berkeley, Palo Alto, Santa Clara: Six curated grocery boxes made using local products and produce  from Calabasas’ Scarborough Farms are available for delivery on Postmates, Doordash, Caviar and UberEats.
