OAKLAND

Asian Health Services (AHS) on May 31 will unveil the new 4,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Dental & Wellness Clinic, the state’s first community dental clinic to integrate mental health screenings and referrals with four dental specialties — endodontics, periodontics, oral surgery and pediatric dentistry.

With this new dental and wellness clinic, AHS will be able to provide dental care services to more than 6,000 low-income children, families and elders. U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee, state Assemblymember Rob Bonta and Alameda County Supervisor Wilma Chan have been confirmed to speak during the dedication ceremony. For more details, email Etom@ahschc.org or call 415-601-2627.

The unveiling will be May 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the new clinic, 109 11th St. in Oakland. Given the significant demand for its dental health care services, which resulted in a 12-month waiting list, AHS embarked on a $2 million capital campaign in 2017 to expand access to its oral health care.

Now with nine exam rooms, AHS’ new dental clinic is housed on the ground floor of a 71-unit affordable-housing complex and includes a mental health counseling room to ensure that dental patients with mental health needs have on-site access to needed care and resources.
