BERKELEY — Police were investigating an apparent injury shooting in a South Berkeley neighborhood, authorities said Wednesday.

Shortly before 7 p.m., police responded to reports of gunshots near Harper and Prince streets. When officers arrived, they found a woman in her twenties suffering from at least one gunshot wound inside a vehicle.

Firefighters also responded to the area and took the woman to an area hospital, and other officers responded to close off traffic to the area. She was initially described as in critical condition, but a Berkeley police officer said he had no update on her condition.

A Prince Street neighbor who spoke with this news organization said he heard the shots ring out.

“This is unheard of right here,” Ben Kinyatta said. “I was in the backyard, knocking one back, sipping Bud, some reggae, social distancing. And we hit the deck, it was so loud.”

Anyone with information should call Berkeley police at 510-891-5900.
