Smoke poured from the back of a plane, and volunteer victims covered in fake blood and ghoulish makeup, sprawled across the ground during a disaster drill Thursday morning at Oakland International Airport.
Over a dozen federal, state, and local agencies took part in a full scale emergency exercise that simulated a plane crash at the airport.
Two new Rosenbauer Panther firefighting apparatuses from the Oakland Fire Department’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting team took part in the event, one spraying water into the air as a firefighter ran a hose line from the other near the back of the smoking plane.
The exercise takes place every three years, and gives first responders along with airport personnel, a chance to test and improve their emergency response systems.
