OAKLAND — A motorcyclist died Wednesday night after he was hit by a pickup truck in West Oakland, police said.

The pickup truck driver was also critically injured, according to Oakland police.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office coroner’s bureau identified the motorcyclist Thursday afternoon as Richard Wilson, 36, of Oakland. The truck driver, an Oakland resident believed to be in his 50s, was not released.

The collision happened at about 8:28 p.m. at the intersection of 12th and Willow streets. Police said that Wilson was riding a Honda motorcycle, which was struck by a Dodge pickup truck.

Wilson was rushed to a hospital, where he later died. The truck driver was found inside his vehicle and was taken to a hospital, where he was in critical condition, police said.

The investigation is continuing, but police said it appears alcohol may have been a factor in the collision.

Anyone with information can contact the Oakland police traffic investigation unit at 510-777-8570.
