SAN FRANCISCO — Mike Yastrzemski hit a solo home run in the bottom of the 12th inning to give the Giants a 3-2 win over the New York Mets at Oracle Park.

With the two teams playing their third extra-inning game in four days, Yastrzemski took a Robert Gsellman changeup the opposite way as it barely cleared the left field wall for his ninth home run of the season. His walk-off blast gave the Giants the series win against the Mets in the four-game set as they once again improved their record to .500 for the season at 50-50.

The Giants now host the Chicago Cubs for three games, starting Monday.

Two Giants players making their Major League debuts Sunday each made an impact.

Starting pitcher Conner Menez struck out six in five innings and third baseman Zach Green had two hits, including a single in his first big league at-bat.

Menez, a Hollister native officially added to the 25-man roster Sunday, allowed solo home runs to Michael Conforto and Amed Rosario in the second inning. He settled down to retire 10 of the last 11 batters he faced, including striking out the side in the third inning.

After he fanned Pete Alonso for the second out of the third inning, the Mets’ slugger, who began the day with 33 home runs, snapped the bat over his knee like it was a toothpick.

Green, of Carmichael, started at third base and singled off Mets starter Steven Matz in the second inning. In the fourth, Green doubled down the left field line, scoring Buster Posey, who led off the inning with a ground rule double to right center field.

Posey was hit by a Seth Lugo fastball in the bottom of the eighth. During the next at-bat against Kevin Pillar, Lugo slipped off the mound but released the pitch toward the plate. It appeared to miss the strike zone, but was called a strike by home plate umpire Mark Ripperger, upsetting Pillar.

At the end of the inning, Pillar was ejected by Ripperger as he walked back toward the Giants dugout.

The Giants won the first two games of the series on Thursday and Friday in extra innings to improve to 49-49, the first time they had a .500 record this season. They lost 11-4 on Saturday, as both Jeff Samardzija and Derek Holland allowed two home runs.

Holland was designated for assignment Sunday morning, a move necessitated in part by the arrival of Green.
