PLEASANT HILL — Three people who tried to escape after a CVS in Benicia was robbed were arrested Thursday after a police hunt, authorities said.
Officers tracked the three down in the area of Contra Costa Boulevard and Boyd Road after searching the area at least 45 minutes. Police did not identify any of them immediately.
Benicia police were notified about 11:15 a.m. that two men entered a CVS, jumped a counter and grabbed two bags of narcotics before escaping in a silver vehicle, spokesman Lt. Damiean Sylvester said.
The California Highway Patrol sent up a helicopter to aid police, and it tracked the vehicle as it crossed the Benicia Bridge on southbound Interstate 680 before exiting in Pleasant Hill. As they tried to escape on the freeway, the people in the car threw out the two bags of narcotics, Sylvester said.
Police have not recovered all of the drugs that were in the bag, he said.
The three suspects ditched the car at an apartment complex, Sylvester said, then ran from the vehicle. Police then surrounded the downtown area and eventually tracked all three down.
Pleasant Hill police put out an alert about 1:30 p.m. saying that “all outstanding subjects are in custody.”
