Join us Monday at 7:30 p.m. for all the live scoring, news and analysis as the Warriors host the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 2 of their first-round Western Conference playoffs series at Oracle.
The Warriors, who grabbed a 1-0 series edge with Saturday night’s 121-104 victory, weren’t satisfied with how things went, despite the win. Golden State was sloppy at times (a whopping 21 turnovers, many of the careless variety) and also watched as star Kevin Durant seemed to get baited into an episode with Clippers antagonist Patrick Beverley that saw both ejected.
Durant promised to show better composure and Golden State, when challenged, has done a nice job in the past of fixing its turnover issues.
Stephen Curry was spectacular in the opener, despite concerns over a sprained foot he suffered a week ago. The Warriors sharpshooter scored 38 points, including an eye-popping 8-of-11 on 3-pointers. Curry, who passed Ray Allen for most career postseason 3-pointers, was also outstanding on the boards while grabbing a career-best 15 rebounds.
The Clippers can point to a stretch in the late first half where their chances to steal a Game 1 victory were compromised. L.A. used magnificent first-half performances from reserves Montrezl Harrell (22 of his 26 points) and Lou Williams to tie Golden State at 51-all before the Warriors erupted for a 16-5 run to close the half.
It’s possible the Warriors will see a lot more of both Harrell and Williams in Game 2 — there’s a chance either or both could start.
Los Angeles, though, will need much better scoring efforts from three of its starters who combined for just six points. Landry Shamet (3 points), Beverley (3 points) and center Ivica Zubac (0 points) were held in check on Saturday.
Game 3 of the best-of-7 series will be in Los Angeles on Thursday night.
