ALAMEDA — The final sendoff for former President George H.W. Bush included a tribute that didn’t unnoticed here.
The U.S. Coast Guard conducted a 21-cannon salute that lasted 21 minutes, beginning at noon Thursday.
The Coast Guard advised that sounds generated from the salute may be heard all over the island.
The salute came hours after a final funeral service for the nation’s 41st president in his hometown of Houston.
After that service, a special funeral train began carrying Bush’s casket began its journey to College Station, Texas. Bush will be buried at a private service in the family plot on the grounds of his presidential library at Texas A&M University.
