SAN JOSE – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting in San Jose last month, police said.

The shooting was reported on the 400 block of North 12th Street, near Washington Street, about 8:10 a.m. on Aug. 24. Officers arrived to find 38-year-old San Jose resident Jose Gaytan suffering from at least one gunshot wound.

Gaytan was pronounced dead at the scene, marking the city’s 24th homicide of the year.

Homicide detectives identified San Jose resident Hector Castillo, 32, as a suspect in the case and obtained a warrant for his arrest, said San Jose police Officer Steve Aponte.

Aponte said the police department’s Covert Response Unit arrested Castillo on Thursday. Castillo was booked into Santa Clara County jail on a charge of murder. According to online jail records, he is being held without bail at the Main Jail in San Jose.
