After no winner emerged in last weekend’s Powerball drawing, the jackpot for Wednesday night’s event now stands at an estimated $550 million, the eight-largest pile in history.  The Powerball jackpot was last claimed Dec. 26 in New York; since then, there have been 23 drawings in a row without a jackpot winner.

Tonight, millions of Powerball fans are hoping there aren’t 24.

Sold in 44 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, Powerball tickets will cost you $2 per play. And there are ways for players to multiply non-jackpot prizes with the Power Play option for an additional $1 per ticket.

Now all you have to do is come up with your six numbers. Here’s a quick look at how some bettors use numerology, the ancient belief in the divine relationship between numbers and life events, to help them choose. (Warning: Some of these sites may try and sell you their services, so beware)

From the folks at CrowdLotto, a developer of lottery ticket scanners:

“When you play a lottery of multiple numbers, it is essential that you tie personal lucky numbers into the calendar day number that the lottery is drawn. When timing & numbers are ‘right,’ you will win. Numerology is a science, which predicts that certain numbers, will show up in important combinations in your life again and again, which is so important when making your lottery/lotto selection. In United States, Powerball number is a platform providing good chances to try luck for making wealth’s. By selecting 6 Lucky digits one may win Millions. It is the real fact that most of the people don’t know their lucky numbers but you will literally draw them to you like a magnet. These numbers vibrate with you throughout lifetime and are lucky for you without you ever knowing.

“Lucky numbers are an important part of numerology. There are two numbers which are associated with us throughout our lifetime and which, consequently, is one of the greatest important to us. This is our Life Path number and fadic birthday, and it is contained in the DOB. We can never change the life path number and fadic birthday to suit ourselves. Life path & fadic numbers are derived from the numbers of the day, month, and year when we were born.”

From SpiritNow, “Your Online Spirituality Destination”

“Every time people play the lottery, they use some form of superstition about numbers. Very few people just pick random numbers. They use special numbers that are associated with significant dates such as birthdays. When people do this, they do not realize that they are actually performing a very common form of numerology that pertains to winning the lottery.

“One of the basic concepts behind numerology is that the same numbers are going to show up in significant repetitive patterns or combinations that keep repeating themselves throughout your lifetime. These numbers are considered to be part of your own absolutely distinctive lucky vibration and, if they show up in your life, then good fortune is bound to follow too. Whenever a number or number combinations shows up again and again in your life, it is considered to be significant. For instance, if your address and license plate both happen to be 52, then there may be something to 52 being a personally lucky number for you.”

From Ellin Dodge, noted numerologist and published author:

“To play a six number lottery, use your first name and birthday numbers. And combine them with the numbers the day the lottery is played. When you play a lottery of multiple numbers, it is essential that you tie your personal lucky numbers into the calendar day number that the lottery is drawn. Follow these simple instructions to find the sixth lucky number the number of the day the lottery is drawn.

“Step 1. Select the calendar month number:
“January = 1, February = 2, March = 3, April = 4, May = 5, June = 6, July = 7, August = 8, September = 9, October = 10, November = 11, December = 12
“Step 2. ADD the calendar day number.
“Step 3. Plus the calendar year number.
“Step 4. Find the sum.
“Step 5. Add the individual numbers in the sum and reduce the sum to a single number.
“Example: August 25, 2000
“CALENDAR MONTH = 8 (August)
“CALENDAR DAY = 25
“CALENDAR YEAR = +2000
“SUM 2033
“TO REDUCE TO A SINGLE NUMBER:
“ADD the sum numbers, 2 + 0 + 3 + 3 = 8
“The Mystical Lucky Number is 8.”

From LotteryBunny, a numerology advice site:

Their free “Numerology Calculator’‘ will calculate your personal lucky numbers from your name, your birthdate and the date of the actual lottery draw. More precisely, your lucky numbers will be generated as follows. Try it. What have you got to lose except the two bucks? The calculator takes that minimum amount of information (“Mike” and “9/9/67” and today’s date) and spits out the following:

“Number 1. Sum of your first name numbers.
“Number 2. Root number of your first name.
“Number 3. Sum of  your birthdate numbers.
“Number 4. Your lucky number 3 reduced to a single number.
“Number 5. Classic age pyramid number closest to your age.
“Number 6. Number of the lottery draw date.”

From lotto-advice site Lottery.net:

“Using birthdays as ‘lucky numbers’ is one of the most popular lottery strategies. And for good reason — they really are lucky, according to the ancient traditions of numerology and feng shui. The strategy is as simple as it comes: just enter your birthdate as numbers on your lottery board! If you were born on 23rd, pick the number 23. If that was in June, then also pick the number 6 for the sixth month. And take the last two digits of the year as the third number.

“Working example of using birthdays for Powerball: Choose 5 numbers between 1 and 69 and one number between 1 and 26. Let’s look at a few creative strategies using the example of a Leo baby born on July 30, 1965. You can use this date to pick the numbers 7, 30, 65. But you still need three more numbers to get a total of six. You could add month plus day to get a higher number. For the birthday July 30, add 7 + 30 to get the higher and more commonly drawn 37. You could also split your birth year into two numbers, 19 and 65. This gives you 6 numbers: 7, 30, 37, 19, 65.”
