The historic Groveland Hotel dates back to 1849, when the adobe structure first opened as a trading post. Since then, it’s been a gambling house, a saloon, a hotel and even a Greyhound bus station. Today, the terracotta-hued building is a boutique inn, renovated in 2017-18 by Jenn and Doug Edwards, who also own the Hotel Charlotte down the street.
ZZZ’S: The Groveland’s airy, turquoise-hued rooms and suites — including half a dozen pet-friendly options — are tucked into the hotel’s main and annex buildings. Rustic wooden bedsteads, animal hides and vintage black-and-white Yosemite photographs adorn the rooms, which are outfitted with plush king and queen-size beds. There are a few unusual lodging choices, too, including a family room with queen bunkbeds and Lyle’s Room, whose blue decor, king-size bedstead and marble-topped tables are favored by the ghost of a gold miner.
SPLASHES: Most rooms have modest en-suite bathrooms with in-tub showers; the luxury suites boast spa tubs, as well.
EXTRAS: In-room Keurig coffee makers and flatscreen TVs. There’s a Tesla charging station in the back parking lot and a spacious deck for warm weather lounging, plus a small cocktail bar and Provisions, a coffee bar with a to-go counter and market with fun snacks and drinks, including bottles of Groveland’s Yosemite Cellars rosé.
DETAILS: Rooms start at $105, with discounts for last-minute reservations or stays of two or more nights. 18767 Main St., Groveland; www.groveland.com
