Ballena Bay Yacht Club, an all-volunteer nonprofit Alameda group, on Tuesday hosted active-duty members of the U.S. Coast Guard who are serving without pay due to the partial government shutdown, USCG retirees, furloughed contractors and their families for a free lunch and other services offered by local businesses. Members of the public were invited to bring food donations to be contributed to Coast Guard families.
