Update, Wednesday: Evacuation orders and warnings were lifted. Stretches of two roads remained closed to non-residents: Highway 154 (San Marcos Pass Road) between Cathedral Oaks Road and Painted Cave Road, and East Camino Cielo from Painted Cave Road to Gibraltar Road.

The fire had burned 4,367 acres (6.8 square miles ) and was 20 percent contained.

A wildfire that started Monday in the hills of Santa Barbara County has burned 4,100 acres and forced evacuations.

The Cave Fire began around 4 p.m. along Highway 154 (San Marcos Pass Road), northeast of Goleta. It’s about 5 miles west of the burn scar of the 2017 Thomas Fire.

As of 7:30 a.m. Tuesday, the  Santa Barbara County Fire Department reported it had burned 4,100 acres (6½ square miles) with no containment. No structures had been destroyed and no injuries reported.

The approximate area of the fire is shown in gray.

Some neighborhoods in southern Santa Barbara County were experiencing power outages because of the fire, county emergency services said on Monday night.

Winds are expected to diminish through the day Tuesday, with heavy rain forecast to begin around 10 p.m.

The fire is named for its proximity to Painted Cave Road and Chumash Painted Cave, a state historic park.
