KNIGHTSEN — Two Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office deputies were taken to a hospital after deputies exchanged gunfire and killed a barricaded suspect Thursday night, authorities said.
According to a Sheriff’s Office statement, deputies responded shortly after 9:40 a.m. to the 1700 block of Green Acres Lane for a report of a domestic violence incident.
“The female victim reported that the suspect held her hostage overnight, pushed her onto a coffee table breaking her ribs, and poured gasoline on her threatening to set her on fire,” a sheriff’s spokesman said.
When deputies arrived at the home, they learned the victim had fled the house. After the department’s SWAT team arrived around 12:40 p.m., hostage negotiators also came to try to speak with a barricaded male inside the home, who shot at deputies but otherwise did not engage.
Just before 9 p.m., the male exited the home and fired a shotgun at SWAT team members, hitting three of them. Other deputies returned fire, hitting him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Two injured deputies were taken to a hospital, while one was treated at the scene for injuries.
Investigators said the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office and the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office were investigating, but released no other details Thursday night.
