Montclair merchants remind customers to heed new rules

With state and county officials reducing COVID-19 restrictions and getting retail and small businesses going again, Montclair Village merchants ask their customers to celebrate this good turn and embrace some new rules. The hands-on feel of browsing the aisles, fashion shows in the dressing rooms and even returns may not be allowed until future phases of the county’s reopening plan, but shoppers can now enjoy shopping in Montclair Village as business owners prioritize convenience and safety.

Some store owners took the last 10 weeks of forced closure to leap into e-commerce. Pelago on Medau Place, open daily for 27 years, is back, and along with storefront pickup has launched a new, fully stocked website, Pelago-Oakland.com, complete with an online store and free local delivery. Montclair Sports has reopened to finish off its closing sale with storewide clearance discounts of up to 60% off and the ability to place purchases directly into your car — just pull up to the curb. Remember to check each store’s website, browse online, then call in your order or place it online for pickup or delivery. Window-shop or ask to be shown an item; buy then touch; know your size, and ask store staff about the return policy.

Lyft, SOS Meals On Wheels, Wicks join forces for seniors

In response to the increased demand for meal delivery for seniors in need due to shelter-in-place orders, Lyft has partnered with SOS Meals on Wheels and Assemblymember Buffy Wicks, D-Oakland, to deliver about 200 meals a day to homebound seniors across Alameda County.

Through this new partnership, Lyft drivers are delivering a significant portion of meals across Alameda County and thus far have delivered more than 4,000 meals and counting to seniors in need. Also, the daily interaction with drivers is critical to supporting the well-being of homebound seniors, as it can provide them with a sense of normality, continuity and comfort during this difficult time. The program is part of Lyft’s broader LyftUp initiative, Lyft’s comprehensive effort to expand transportation access to those who need it most. At this time, Lyft has expanded its LyftUp efforts across the country by activating more than 500 partners in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
