Everyone Belongs Here

Poster and Poetry Contest

Presented by the AUSD LGBTQ+ Roundtable

The AUSD LGBTQ+ Roundtable is thrilled to announce the return of the annual Everyone Belongs Here Poster and Poetry Contest!

What Is The Poster & Poetry Contest?

In addition to being a student competition led by a local LGBTQ+ advocacy group, the poster and poetry contest is a celebration of written and visual art dedicated to the vital message that everyone belongs here.

Who Can Participate?

All Alameda students grades K-12. Judging will be split by age group: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

What Can The Entries Look Like?

Poems can be any length or style, from a haiku, to a sonnet, to an epic.

Posters (due to printing limitations) can range in size from 8.5x11 inches to 24x30 inches. The media type is your choice: watercolor, colored pencils, crayons, charcoal, paint, pastels, or digital.

The submission deadline is May 23rd. Please see the This Year + Theme page for more details.

Awards and Recognition

The overall poetry winner will have their poem printed in our local newspaper, the Alameda Sun.

The overall poster winner will have their poster printed and distributed to schools (and made available for display to anyone who desires a copy).

Each grade band (K-5, 6-8, 9-12) will also have a selected winner for each category.

Winners will be informed on May 30th, and a celebration of all artists will be held on June 4th, at The Healing Garden (1435 Webster Street) from 1-3 pm.

All winners will receive a $15 Books Inc gift card, and two passes to the USS Hornet Sea, Air, and Space Museum!
