Annual Street Repair & Resurfacing Project Commences
Published on August 22, 2022
The City’s annual street repair and resurfacing project will begin in late August and is estimated to be complete by late November. Construction work hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Repairs will take place in several phases:
- Curb and gutter removed and replaced
- ADA-accessible curb ramps constructed
- Areas with poor pavement patched with slurry seal and cracks filled
- Street pavement
- Pavement markings and traffic striping replaced
During construction, motorists will experience minor disruptions in traffic, temporary loss of parking spaces, restricted street access, and increased noise and dust levels. We will maintain bus stop access throughout the project.
We'll perform two types of repair work, 1) roadway rehabilitation treatments (hot mix asphalt overlay) and 2) preventive maintenance treatments (slurry sealing and crack sealing).
Hot mix asphalt overlay is a mixture of asphalt cement (tar), gravel, and sand spread with a paving machine and compacted with rollers. For streets that require an overlay, the contractor will try to maintain one lane of traffic in each direction of travel. However, site conditions may require that only one lane is available for both directions of travel. In these cases, flag persons will control traffic and delays may occur. On-street parking may be removed for up to one week during construction hours.
The following streets have been identified for hot mix asphalt overlay work:

The contractor will post ‘No Parking’ signs 72 hours before starting work to inform residents about construction dates and parking restrictions.
The City Council has directed staff to prioritize safety at all intersections along some City streets by prohibiting parking in the vicinity. This intersection “daylighting” improves visibility for pedestrians and vehicles and has been shown to improve safety.
