OAKLAND — A motorcyclist killed Thursday afternoon in a collision with a car on I-80 was identified by the coroner’s office Friday as Dana Gentry, 47, of Rio Linda in Sacramento County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Gentry was riding a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle about 1:50 p.m. Thursday westbound on I-80 west of the Powell Street exit.

CHP Officer Matthew Hamer said  for still unknown reasons the motorcycle hit the rear of a Mazda sedan, causing the motorcycle to go out of control and collide with the metal guard rail.

At some point Gentry was ejected and landed in the roadway.  He died later at a hospital.

No other injuries were reported.

Hamer said the Mazda driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Hamer said investigators are still trying to determine if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to call the CHP at 510-450-3821.
