OK, Candy Spelling didn’t use the term “popping out” with regard to her daughter Tori Spelling’s proclivity for producing offspring.
But the 71-year-old widow of the late mega-TV producer Aaron Spelling has expressed the wish that her daughter Tori realize that five kids is enough.
“She just loves her kids,” Candy told a correspondent from Us Weekly, who caught up with her Saturday at an animal charity event in Beverly Hills. “I hope she’s finished, but you never know.”
Tori, 44, and husband Dean McDermott, 50, are parents of Liam, 10, Stella, 9, Hattie, 5, Finn, 5 and new baby Beau Dean, who was born in March.
Left unsaid in Candy’s remarks is that her daughter and her husband may not be able to afford the kids they already have.
Along with her fecundity, the “Beverly Hills 90210” alum is known for her financial woes. While she is the daughter of fabulously rich parents, Tori was also famously left just $800,000 from her father, who had an estimated $600 million fortune when he died in 2006.
In 2014, Candy told the New York Times that her daughter’s reckless spending habits are the reason she was largely cut out of Aaron’s will. Candy said Tori “would close a store and drop $50,000 to $60,000.”
Tori and Dean, who admitted to an affair in 2013, frequently make headlines for trying to enjoy the life-style of Hollywood royalty while struggling to meet their monthly bills via low-level reality TV gigs and self-promotional stunts like charging guests $300 each to attend her 43rd birthday party at a Danish castle in 2016.
Candy is also right to be worried that Tori might not be done procreating. At one point, Tori said that she and Dean coudn’t afford to get a vasectomy. Then shortly after Beau Dean’s birth in March via cesarean section, Tori told People that she already missed being pregnant and could see herself going for baby no. 6.
“Hey, if people call you the Brady Bunch, you have to complete the Brady Bunch,” she joked, referring to the TV show family that had six children.
Without a vasectomy for Dean, it still sounds like the couple haven’t been too careful in the family planning department.
At the time she announced her pregnancy with Beau Dean, Tori admitted that the pregnancy wasn’t planned. Then again, her fourth pregnancy wasn’t planned either.
In some ways, Candy sounds resigned to what whatever fate — or her daughter’s reproductive urges — brings in life.
“Let me tell you, she’s my daughter. I love her,” Candy told Us. “I would do anything to help my children if I can.”
