MILPITAS — A 40-year-old female inmate at the Elmwood Correctional Facility died Sunday at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.
Jail officials have not released the name of the woman.
Friday night, the inmate said she had a headache and felt as if she was going to pass out, authorities said. She was assessed by medical staff at the jail and taken to the hospital.
The woman, who has been in custody since Nov. 22, 2016, showed no signs of physical trauma, authorities said.
As per procedure in such cases, the Sheriff’s Office has opened an investigation into the death and notified the Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office and District Attorney’s Office.
