RICHMOND — An El Cerrito teen was arrested and taken into custody in connection with a young woman’s shooting death two months ago, police said Monday.
Around 10:45 p.m. May 18, Richmond police responded to Booker T. Anderson Park, 960 South 47th Street, for a ShotSpotter activation, police said.
As officers headed to the park, staffers at a local hospital called police to say a female gunshot victim had been dropped off.
After officers responded to the park and hospital, they learned the victim, Allie Sweitzer, of Discovery Bay, had been at the park where an argument involving at least one male had escalated, leading to the shooting.
Despite life-saving measures, Sweitzer was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Richmond police’s homicide unit took up the case, working leads and conducting interviews, and identified a suspect after several weeks. After a judge issued an arrest warrant, a 15-year-old teen was taken into custody around 6 p.m. in Richmond, police said.
“The department is proud of the detectives’ teamwork and tenacity in finding the suspect in this tragic incident,” Richmond police said Monday.
“We would also like to thank the FBI Safe Street Task Force for assisting in the investigation. We hope this arrest brings some closure to Allie’s family and that justice will soon prevail.”
