A man panhandling for gas money was arrested in San Rafael with a stolen $245,000 Ferrari, police said Tuesday.

Rocky Jimenez, 36, was booked into Marin County Jail on counts of vehicle theft, burglary and drug possession. Bail was set at $50,000.

Jimenez was arrested Sunday after police received reports about a suspicious man on Francisco Boulevard East at Shoreline Parkway, said San Rafael police Sgt. Lisa Holton. The man asked a witness for gas money and was seen apparently pouring fuel on a Ferrari.

Officers identified the suspect as Jimenez, who said he owned the vehicle. Jimenez told police he had recently picked it up after leaving it at the service shop for two years, Holton said.

Police searched Jimenez’s backpack and found the key to the Ferrari, a 2016 488 GTB. He had no ownership documents, and a Ferrari representative confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen from the service center in San Rafael.

Jimenez also had a key to a second Ferrari that had not been stolen, Holton said.

Police found additional stolen property and are investigating potential links to other crimes.
