DANVILLE — Shots were fired at a Danville Costco on Friday during the store’s second smash-and-grab robbery involving hammer-wielding assailants this month.
No one was shot during the 12:15 p.m. heist at Costco Wholesale at 3150 Fostoria Way, but one bystander was treated by medics for shock, said Danville city spokesman Geoff Gillette. That person fell while trying to avoid the robbers, according to police.
Police reported two masked individuals shrouded in hoodies came into the store. One of them smashed a glass display case with a hammer and grabbed some merchandise and, after an employee tried to intercede, the second robber fired a gun, Gillette said.
The robbers ran from the store and fled the area in a waiting silver Toyota Camry with paper plates. A second shot was fired into the air as they were leaving the parking lot, police said.
Police said one of the robbers was wearing a black hoodie and gray pants, gloves, and a mask. The other had the same thing on, but black pants. Both men had a slender build and were between 5-foot-9 and 6 feet, police said.
The store was closed after the robbery but reopened to customers before 3 p.m.
The same store was robbed by a masked man using a hammer on May 8. Police said a masked man entered with two unmasked accomplices and smashed a display case with a hammer before fleeing with the merchandise inside. A store employee tackled one of the unmasked suspects, leading to the arrest of 21-year-old Oakland resident Kasean Edwards, but the other two got away.
