The A’s Ballpark Pass, launched just last Thursday, will stop being sold by the club as of Wednesday at 5 p.m.

The $19.99 deal allows fans to attend every home game for a month.  And according to A’s executive Catherine Aker, about 2,000 plans will have been sold by Wednesday for the month of June.

Subscriptions for July, August and September will go on sale later. Fans have the option of dropping the subscription, which will then go into a pool for the next month for sale to others.

“In terms of staffing and fan experience, that’s what we feel comfortable doing,” Aker told this newspaper. “In terms of sales, it’s been a great success.”

The A’s refer to these as SRO (standing room only) seats, although patrons would be given assigned seats through the MLB Ballpark App on their mobile phones for any game that wasn’t a total sellout.

When the plan was unveiled May 10, there was no mention of a sales deadline. The club seems to have been caught a little by surprise by the warm reception the plan received.

Plans are still available for June through Wednesday. Oakland is one of a handful of teams to experiment with the pass, and none of the others priced their plans so inexpensively. The monthly pass is just $4.99 more than a single-game ticket in the third deck of the Coliseum.

While Wednesday is the deadline for sales for June, Aker said there is a chance there will be more plans available later, although on what the A’s believe will be an extremely limited basis.

“On the 20th of each month, fans can opt out for the next month,” Aker said. “For the fans who do, we will open up the sales.

“What’s most important to us is that when these fans come to the game, they enjoy a high level of fan experience.”
