Joe Montana connected with Jerry Rice for 67 touchdowns, but the two 49ers greats will connect again Sunday and into the future.
Legendary sports figures from the Candlestick Park era, including Montana and Rice, will be honored Sunday with streets named after them in a new neighborhood near the site of the now-demolished stadium.
The others so honored by the city of San Francisco and FivePoint, the developer in charge of the Candlestick site, are 49ers legends Bill Walsh, Ronnie Lott, former owner Eddie DeBartolo Jr. and former executive Carmen Policy as well as Giants greats Barry Bonds, Orlando Cepeda and Juan Marichal.
All nine will have streets named after them at a development on the now vacant site of Candlestick Point, which will be renovated by mixed-use development company FivePoint. That project includes 7,000 new homes in the Candlestick neighborhood and is expected to be done in 2022.
At that point, you’ll be able to find the cross-streets of Montana and Rice.
