SAN JOSE — Three homeless people who became trapped on land surrounded by fast-rising waters in Coyote Creek were rescued Monday by the fire department’s urban search and rescue team.
The search and rescue team performed two rescues in the span of about 90 minutes along Coyote Creek, according to San Jose Fire Capt. Mitch Matlow.
Just before noon, two people called 911 and said they were on land surrounded by water in the creek near Berryessa Road, according to San Jose Fire Capt. Mitch Matlow. The urban search and rescue team used a boat to reach the two stranded people and bring them to shore, navigating through vegetation and brush within the creek.
One of the people suffered a minor injury and both were taken to a hospital, Matlow said.
Shortly after, firefighters rescued a man who was trapped in the creek near Oakland Road, Matlow said. The man was rescued and walked away.
