County should save public golf course

I am writing in support of reopening San Geronimo Golf Course.

I have been playing golf at San Geronimo for over 12 years. It is an amazing place that has been poorly managed by the last owner. It can be profitable with the right management.

This course is a historic gem and a gathering place for the community — a fantastic venue for all of West Marin to use.

I have played in so many tournaments to profit our local radio station KWMR, tournaments for the community center, multiple sclerosis, the sheriff and fire departments and more.

Jobs will be lost. A place for people to do well together and do good for the community will be lost if the county closes this course for good.

Why not make it a model for an environmentally friendly course? Our county supervisors can do better, and I hope they do.

My goals for being named ‘Neighbor of the Year’

My hope for the new year is to be named “Neighbor of the Year 2018” in my beautiful neighborhood. This is my list of New Year’s resolutions that may help me achieve my lofty goal:

• I will keep my outside lights low or off and I will never use klieg lights.

• I will rake or sweep my leaves and dust rather than blow.

• I will never let my dogs bark after 10 p.m. and before 8 a.m..

• I will never let my dogs outside in the middle of the night to bark at the foxes, deer, raccoons, coyotes, opossums and other assorted wildlife that live in our enchanted forest.

• I will not empty my trash and recyclables before 8 a.m. and after 10 p.m..

• I will never play my music loudly or sing before 8 a.m. or after 10 p.m..

• I will bring my parties inside after 10 p.m..

• I will not park my fleet of cars, SUV or truck in the street for longer than 24 hours.

• I will not burn wood in my fireplace, even if it is not a Spare the Air day because all it takes is one smoldering fire to pollute the air of our entire neighborhood.

• I will not display any political or “Save the Salmon,” “Save the Oysters,” “Save the Golf Course,” “Save the Valley” or “Save The Whatever” signs that are proven to be less than 2 percent effective and only litter and spoil our amazing neighborhood.

IJ letters and cartoons reflect Marin readership

It seems that Robert Casper, Sr. (Readers’ Forum, Jan.1) has taken a ride with the Wicked Witch of the West and wound up in Marin County by accident.

The Marin IJ that I have subscribed to for decades reflects the place most of us live in by choice, a generally open-minded, compassionate and thoughtful community that tends to elect people with those same characteristics.

Like President Donald Trump, Casper throws around labels like “liberal lying press” without any facts to back him up. On the other hand, the Washington Post tracks the words of numerous politicians, and weighs them against hard data.

POTUS doesn’t come off very well, with almost 2,000 untrue statements since he took office.

The fortunes of newspapers haven’t been hurt by pursuing the truth or running political cartoons featuring a man who has made a career out of outrageous behavior. Rather, it has been competition from alternative media, often free, that has cut into circulation.

I trust the IJ will continue to buck this trend. It’s a breath of fresh air in a Breitbart world.

Trump the cause of coverage he’s getting

This is in response to Robert A. Casper Sr.’s Jan. 1 letter, citing the IJ as reporting with an anti-Trump slant, reporting falsehoods about the president.

I see it differently. I see the reporting of facts from the IJ, Chronicle, ABC 7 News, CNN and MSNBC. Not fake news. Facts.

The thing is, all of the reporting is in response to the president’s actions and/or words. If the news seems “bad” to Mr. Casper, consider that the behavior of the president was poor and any criticism or critique he receives is a reflection of that poor behavior.

He is blaming everyone else, rather than taking adult responsibility for his actions and words. I am grateful to live in an era where so many accurate and factual news sources exist so that I may stay informed of the occurrences happening in my country that is being driven down the tubes by this president and his lies.

Please keep it up, IJ, Chronicle, ABC News 7, CNN and MSNBC! I appreciate you all!
