Between the leaping lords and French hen trios, the “12 Days of Christmas” always seemed an odd way to do one’s holiday shopping. Which may be why Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel is celebrating the season with “12 Days of Christmas Cocktails.” Instead of cooing calling birds and egg-dropping geese (don’t get us started on the passel of partridges), there are Yule Mules, Candy Cane Twists and a very boozy Santa’s Little Helper to sip on the hotel pool deck, as holiday flicks flicker across a big screen.
If you’re heading to SoCal, the drinks ($15) are available Dec. 14-25, and the song — yes, they’ve written a song and it’s sung to “Sleigh Ride” — is free. We’d have stuck to the partridge framework, but you really can’t go wrong with drinks a’clinking and it being “lovely weather for a cocktail together or two.”
Want to make their Yule Mule at home? Fill that copper mug with 1 ounce Tito’s Vodka, fresh lime juice, a dash of cranberry juice and the best ginger beer you can find. And leave that poor pear tree alone.
