LOS GATOS — A motorcyclist who died Friday after being hit by a car on Highway 17 has been identified by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office as Cornelius Talbert, 69, of Scotts Valley.

The crash was reported around 11:45 a.m. Friday just north of Madrone Drive, according to the CHP.

The CHP said a Honda Accord changed lanes and hit Talbert, causing him to lose control of his Harley-Davidson, overturn and slide into an embankment.

Talbert was taken to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead around 1 p.m., according to the CHP. The Coroner’s Office said Talbert died of blunt chest trauma.

The CHP identified the driver of the car as Thomas Karl Harness, 53, of Soquel. He remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

The crash remains under investigation, but alcohol or drugs are not believed to have been factors.
