SANTA CLARA — The 49ers raided the Dallas Cowboys practice squad for free safety Tyree Robinson on Tuesday.

Robinson signed a two-year deal and took the roster spot of wide receiver Pierre Garçon, who went on injured reserve because of a lingering knee issue.

The 49ers (3-10) have started eight different combinations of safeties, mostly because of injuries to Adrian Colbert, Jimmie Ward and Jaquiski Tartt, the latter of whom has dealt with shoulder stingers all year. Antone Exum started at free safety and Marcell Harris made his starting debut at strong safety in Sunday’s 20-14 win over Denver.

Robinson will wear No. 49 if he suits up for Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.

Robinson (6-foot-2, 202 pounds) joined the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent this year out of the University of Oregon, and he was inactive for Dallas’ first two games before being dropped to the practice squad. He played at Oregon with 49ers defensive linemen DeForest Buckner and Arik Armstead.

Among his 12 starts last season at Oregon, he tallied seven tackles and Stanford, and he had a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Las Vegas Bowl.

For the second time in as many years with the 49ers, Garçon went on injured reserve after appearing in only eight games. He had 24 receptions for 286 yards and one touchdown, and he missed five of the past six games.

In practice-squad news, the 49ers added tight end Marcus Lucas, and they lost tight end Cole Wick to the Tennessee Titans’ 53-man roster.
