Cartoons depicting GeorgeW. Bush as a monkey OK?

Re: all the hubbub and fallout from Roseanne Barr’s joke “in bad taste”:

I remember quite well during George W. Bush’s administration cartoon caricatures depicting him as a monkey, replete with tail.

No one seemed to have a problem with that. Oh, that’s right, he is a conservative, Caucasian male and is therefore fair game. Hypocrites.
