OAKLAND — A loaded gun was found on a Fremont High School student Wednesday morning, prompting a campus lockdown, officials said.

School district police quickly disarmed the student and no one was hurt. The lockdown was soon lifted at the campus, which is at 4610 Foothill Blvd., officials said.

Authorities said the student was brought to the school office about 9:45 a.m. Wednesday for discussion on an unrelated matter.  Authorities did not immediately say if the student was male or female or provide an age.

While talking with school security and district police, the student started to act suspiciously, district spokesman John Sasaki said.

The student was asked if they had any weapons and it turned out the student had a loaded gun in their waistband, Sasaki said.

Officers secured the gun and arrested the student.

Investigators said there was no indication of a threat to any individual student or the campus as a whole, Sasaki said.  As yet there is no word why the student had the gun or where it was obtained.

The campus was  briefly on lockdown.
