At least 21 people were killed and two are still missing in the Jan. 9 flash flooding and ensuing mudslides in Santa Barbara County. But officials are making progress on the cleanup, and hope to let residents into their homes by the end of the month, according to the Associated Press. Highway 101 was reopened on Sunday, Jan. 21.

These photos show some of the damaged areas and how they look now after the state’s cleanup efforts.
