PEBBLE BEACH — The Pebble Beach AT&T Pro-Am pairings were released for the first three rounds of the event, and there are some very interesting groups for the tournament, which starts Thursday. World No. 1 Jordan Spieth is matched with eighth-ranked Dustin Johnson, who lost to Spieth in heartbreaking fashion at last summer’s U.S. Open at Chambers Bay (Washington). Another notable group matches a pair of extra-long hitters, Bubba Watson and J.B. Holmes, while fan favorite and four-time AT&T winner Phil Mickelson will be paired with fellow American Patrick Reed, who is now ranked ninth in the world.
Virtually all the big-name pros and celebrities will be playing at Spyglass Hill on Thursday, followed by Monterey Peninsula Country Club on Friday and Pebble Beach on Saturday. In an interesting match of athletic amateurs, quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will be playing in the same group with their pro partners, Jerry Kelly and Kevin Streelman, respectively.
Former A’s star Josh Donaldson, who was the American League MVP last season with Toronto, will open at MPCC on Thursday, playing in a group one hole ahead of Warriors CEO Joe Lacob.
