3. The FIFA corruption scandal that took down soccer officials around the world. FIFA president Sepp Blatter and his one-time likely successor, UEFA president Michel Platini, were suspended eight years for unethical conduct.
4. The Warriors win their first NBA title in 40 years behind NBA MVP Stephen Curry, then open defense of their title by beginning the 2015-16 season 24-0.
5. Golfer Jordan Spieth won the Masters and the U.S. Open, missed the British Open playoff by one shot and was runner-up in the PGA Championship.
6. Serena Williams nearly completed the first single-season tennis Grand Slam since 1988, winning the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon before losing in the U.S. Open semifinals.
7. The United States women’s soccer team, led by Carli Lloyd, won the Women’s World Cup. Lloyd scored a hat trick in the 5-2 victory over Canada in the final.
8. The Kansas City Royals defeated the New York Mets in Game 5 to claim their first World Series title since 1985.
9. Missouri’s football players threatened to boycott a game over racial tensions on campus. That helped pressure the president of the university system to step down.
10. Ohio State won the first College Football Playoff.
