SAN JOSE — Authorities arrested a 62-year-old man Wednesday on suspicion of sending “harmful matter” to an undercover officer who was posing as a boy.

Gerald McGuire, of San Jose, allegedly posted on social media that he wanted to meet a “younger male.” An undercover officer, a member of the Silicon Valley Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, responded and had several online conversations with McGuire, according to police.

Police said McGuire made several incriminating statements and sent what police called “harmful matter” to the officer. Police did not explain exactly what was sent.

On Wednesday, McGuire reportedly arranged to meet the officer at Commodore Park. He was arrested there by officers with the San Jose Police Department’s Sexual Assaults Investigations Unit.

McGuire was booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of sending harmful matter to a minor and contacting a minor with the intent to commit a felony.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call Detective C. Mendoza of the Sexual Assaults Investigations Unit at 408-277-4102. Those wishing to remain anonymous can call 408-947-7867.
