SAN MATEO — A Half Moon Bay man has been arrested on suspicion of committing sex acts with a teen girl he met through social media, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Detectives tracked 25-year-old Jose Arroyo Molina to a location in Hayward, where he was arrested Sunday night, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Office was investigating an allegation that on an unspecified date Molina met with a 15-year-old girl near Highway 92 and Skyline Boulevard in unincorporated San Mateo County, about five miles east of Half Moon Bay, where Molina lives. They allegedly engaged in sex acts, according to authorities.

An ensuing investigation led to information suggesting Molina was planning to meet the girl again on Whitman Street in Hayward. Officers from Hayward police were alerted and detained Molina until San Mateo County detectives arrived to arrest him.

Molina was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on suspicion of lewd acts with a child and possession of obscene material involving a minor. He is being held on $100,000 bail.

Detectives continue to investigate the case and ask that anyone who believes they may have been a victim or has information about the case contact Detective Joe Cang at 650-259-2417 or leave an anonymous tip at 800-547-2700.
