PACHECO — Two brothers are dead after an apparent murder-suicide on Thursday in Pacheco, authorities said Friday.

The brothers were identified Friday by the Contra Costa Coroner’s Office as John and Richard Gilmore, age 67 and 64 respectively.

Richard Gilmore was found shot dead and John Gilmore was suffering from a gunshot wound when sheriff’s deputies arrived at a Dalton Court home at 12:59 p.m. Thursday, authorities said. The deputies went to the home on a report of a disturbance.

The elder Gilmore was taken to a hospital, where he later died. A sheriff’s spokesman has not said which brother was the shooter.

Detectives are investigating the shooting as a murder-suicide and said the pair had an ongoing family dispute.

John Gilmore lived in Martinez while Richard Gilmore was listed as living in Pacheco, the coroner’s office said. Pacheco is an unincorporated part of Contra Costa County bordered by Martinez and Concord.
