No one was hurt when a car careened down a Mill Valley driveway and plunged into a swimming pool.

The incident Thursday afternoon at 381 Lovell Ave. had firefighters scratching their heads for a moment because there was uncertainty about how the powerful batteries in the hybrid Toyota Prius were interacting with water in the pool, according to Mill Valley Battalion Chief Michael St. John.

After determining that the woman driving the car was unhurt after losing control of the vehicle, “the call posed some problems due to the difficulty of extracting it from the pool,” he said.

As it turned out, there no was electrical shock hazard and a tow truck was called in to remove the vehicle.

The woman had zipped off a driveway, plowed through a fence and hurtled an embankment before landing in her neighbor’s swimming pool.

“She rode it all the way to the pool and had to swim out,” St. John said.

The vehicle was deemed a total loss.
