SUNNYVALE — A train struck and killed a pedestrian Saturday night on Caltrain tracks near the Sunnyvale station.

The train was traveling northbound toward Mountain View when it hit a woman at about 7:20 p.m., said Caltrain spokesman Will Reisman.

The woman was the 13th person killed on Caltrain tracks this year. The identity of the victim and further details about what happened were not available Sunday.

Ninety-five passengers were riding train No. 445 when the collision occurred, and no passengers or Caltrain employees were hurt, according to Reisman.

The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority provided a bus service to connect Caltrain passengers traveling between the Lawrence and Mountain View stations.

The train that hit the pedestrian was taken out of service, and subsequent trains were delayed for nearly an hour.

Caltrain’s last fatality was on June 5, when a commuter train struck a man near the Atherton station.

This year’s death toll on the tracks already exceeds the total from 2014, when 10 people were fatally struck.
